چکیده

' 2004 Canadian Medical Association C diastasis of the inferior tibiofibular joint is a rare anomaly, seen at birth. It is commonly associated with a variety of conditions: talipes equinovarus deformity of the foot, an unduly prominent and distally placed medial malleolus, accentuated tibia vara and tibial intorsion, widened inferior tibiofibular joint and tibial shortening. The condition was first reported in 1972 by Tuli and Varma (2 cases), followed by Bose (1976, 1 case), Jones and associates (1978, 4 cases) and Onimus and colleagues (1990, 4 cases). To date, in the English orthopedic literature, 17 children have been reported with congenital tibiofibular diastasis. All children presented clinically with associated talipes equinovarus deformity of the foot of varying severity. Often noted later were the associated aspects of the congenital diastasis, widening of the ankle mortise, tibial intorsion and a short tibia. All had tibial hypoplasia of varying severity, with evident hypoplasia of the lateral distal plafond. The talus was often wedged and elevated between the tibia and fibula. The fibula was frequently hypertrophic and on lateral radiographs was seen crossing the tibia anteriorly. We report here our experience with 1 child with this unusual anomaly. We also developed and present a treatment algorithm for congenital tibial diastasis based on an analysis of the English literature.

The use of a transyndesmotic bolt in the treatment of tibiofibular diastasis: two case studies.

The authors present a brief overview of tibiofibular diastasis and the mechanisms of injury associated with it. This type of injury is frequently misdiagnosed or improperly treated. Two case studies are presented with specific emphasis placed on the use of a transyndesmotic bolt in the reduction of the tibiofibular diastasis. The authors have found this to be more beneficial in the treatment of...

Congenital deficiency of the tibia.

The late results of treatment of 24 legs in 21 children with congenital deficiency of the tibia are presented. A new classification is proposed which correlates well with recommendations for treatment and with the final functional result. Three types of deficiency were recognised: Type I, total absence of the tibia; Type II, distal absence; Type III, distal deficiency with tibiofibular diastasi...

Weber C ankle fractures with tibiofibular diastasis: syndesmosis-only fixation

OBJECTIVES To evaluate syndesmosis-only fixation in Weber C ankle fractures with tibiofibular diastasis and to assess the need for additional fibular fixation. METHODS Twenty-one patients with Weber C ankle fractures and tibiofibular diastasis were followed for at least 24 months after treatment. In treatment of the Weber C fractures, only a syndesmosis screw was used through a mini open late...

Inferior dislocation of the proximal tibiofibular joint: a report on four cases.

The authors report four cases of inferior dislocation of the proximal tibiofibular joint. A literature search disclosed reports on superior, anterolateral and posterolateral dislocation, but none on inferior dislocation of the proximal tibiofibular joint. The latter was associated in these four cases with fracture of the tibia, as also noted in cases of superior dislocation, and with severe neu...

Traumatic dislocations of the proximal tibiofibular joint: a report of two cases.

Traumatic dislocations of the proximal tibiofibular joint are rare and difficult to diagnose. They can present as an isolated case or in association with multiple injuries. They are typically classified into subluxation, anterolateral, posteromedial, and superior dislocations. We report 2 unusual dislocations (posterolateral and inferior) of the proximal tibiofibular joint, both associated with...
